I started off my first year or so on the Formula team taking on smaller design and manufacturing projects, and really advanced my skills throughout the last few years once I was more experienced with the machines in the shop. I quickly fell in love with welding and spent much of my senior year TIG welding exhaust pipes, roll hoops, steering components, and tons of suspension parts.
I also spent plenty of time behind the scenes as Team Manager during my senior year organizing team logistics such as overall timelines, travel logistics for competition, budget, and ordering all the parts and stock to manufacture our cars.
I was the lead for the Driver Controls subsystem during my junior year and focused on redesigning and manufacturing components that maximized driver comfort.
Our racecars were immensely successful and constantly improving during my four years on the team. In the 2022 competition following the COVID-19 pandemic, our EV passed technical inspection and ran in non-endurance events (and endurance) for the first time ever. In 2023, our IC car placed 6th out of 100+ teams and our EV placed 19th out of 60+ teams. Then my senior year in 2024, our IC car held its 6th place finish and our EV jumped up to 11th place.
